A devastating early-morning crash in Los Angeles has left a man and a toddler dead, sending shockwaves through a local community.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the violent two-vehicle collision happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday along Vista Del Mar near Culver Boulevard in Playa Del Rey.
Authorities say a vehicle traveling southbound suddenly crossed into oncoming traffic, slamming into another car in the northbound lanes.
The impact was deadly.
A male passenger in the front seat was pronounced dead at the scene. A toddler who was rushed to the hospital later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Emergency crews also transported a 28-year-old man and a juvenile to a nearby hospital, though their conditions have not been released.
Photos from the scene show the wreckage scattered across the roadway, with one SUV severely damaged and airbags deployed as police secured the area with caution tape. Heartbreaking moments unfolded as family members arrived, some seen crying and embracing near the crash site.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the vehicle to cross into opposing lanes.
