A mass shooting on Chicago’s South Side left at least 13 people wounded Friday night after gunmen inside a red SUV opened fire on a large crowd, police said.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. in the 200 block of West 95th Street in the Roseland neighborhood.

According to Chicago police, a red SUV pulled up near the crowd before two people inside started firing into the group.

Officers first found a 32-year-old woman who had been shot in the back and a 44-year-old man who suffered graze wounds. Both were taken to local hospitals in good condition.

Police later confirmed that at least 13 people were shot in the attack. The victims range in age from 17 to 47.

A 26-year-old woman was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. The remaining victims were listed in good condition at area hospitals, including the University of Chicago Medical Center, Christ Medical Center and Trinity Hospital.

One victim, a 26-year-old man, refused medical treatment.

Video from the scene showed the chaos left behind after the gunfire erupted. At least 100 evidence markers could be seen scattered across the area, along with multiple shattered car windows and what appeared to be a bus stop struck by bullets. Broken glass covered part of the sidewalk.

Street Pastor Donovan Price told CBS News the violence was especially devastating because it happened on Juneteenth, a day meant for celebration.

“It should be celebrating,” Price said. “Fireworks should not turn into gunshots.”

Area Two detectives are investigating the shooting.

No arrests were immediately reported.
