A lakeside party in Oklahoma turned into a scene of panic and flashing lights after gunfire erupted, sending at least 13 people to the hospital and leaving a community shaken.
The chaos broke out around 9 p.m. at a campground near Arcadia Lake, just north of Oklahoma City. What was supposed to be a carefree night filled with music and friends quickly spiraled as shots rang out, sending partygoers running for cover in the dark.
Police say no suspects have been caught yet, but they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. Still, the search is on.
“This is obviously a very terrifying situation,” Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward said at the scene. “We are working extremely hard to find these suspects and help these victims.”
Investigators believe two men wearing ski masks opened fire, though what led up to the shooting is still unclear. Officers spent hours overnight tracking down witnesses and victims across the area as more details slowly came together.
At first, authorities reported around 10 people had been hospitalized, but that number climbed as others showed up at hospitals on their own. Three victims were treated at a local Edmond hospital, while 10 more were taken to a major medical center in Oklahoma City. Their conditions have not been publicly released.
The party, described as a large gathering of mostly young adults, had reportedly been promoted online as a “Sunday Funday” event near the lake — a popular hangout spot known for camping, fishing, and summer get-togethers.

The shooting is just the latest in a disturbing string of weekend violence involving young people across the country.
Hours earlier in Indianapolis, gunfire at a post-prom party left a woman dead and at least two others injured. The day before that, a party in Texas ended in tragedy as well, with two people killed and at least 10 others wounded.
So far this year, the US has seen more than 130 mass shootings involving four or more victims, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive. Among those affected, hundreds of teens have been killed or injured, highlighting a growing and troubling trend.
