A heartbreaking tragedy in Mexico has left a community stunned after a 3-year-old boy died after being left inside a hot car for hours.

Authorities say little Vicente was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon inside a vehicle parked outside a home in Mexicali, where temperatures had climbed into the 90s.

According to reports, the child was still strapped into his car seat when he was discovered.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. after someone noticed a child locked inside the vehicle. When police arrived, they found Vicente’s mother holding him and trying to get a response, but it was too late.

Paramedics and firefighters confirmed the toddler had died at the scene.

Investigators later determined that Vicente died from heatstroke after being trapped inside the car for more than 12 hours.

Officials say there were no signs of physical violence, but the extreme heat caused severe damage. Medical examiners reported burns on his arms, legs, and other parts of his body — injuries caused by the scorching interior of the vehicle.

Police believe the child was accidentally left behind after his mother returned home late Friday night. According to reports, she had been out at a gathering and got back just before midnight, then went inside — forgetting Vicente in the car.

His body was not discovered until midday Saturday.

Authorities estimate the child likely died sometime between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. as temperatures rose.

Even when temperatures are lower overnight, experts warn that the inside of a closed car can heat up rapidly once the sun comes out, quickly becoming deadly.

The boy’s father has made claims on social media about the circumstances surrounding the incident, though those statements have not been confirmed by authorities.

Prosecutors have opened an investigation into the case, and local residents are demanding answers, with some calling for it to be treated as negligence.

  1. So a child this small wakes up very early and she didn’t wake up like you normally would and realize something was wrong? As a mom I have no idea how you leave your child in the car, she didn’t realize she didn’t put him to bed, BS! She should be charged so sick of seeing these stories.
