Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, is set to announce her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on February 15th.

She will become the first Republican to officially declare their run for the presidential race, challenging former President Donald Trump who has already announced his bid. Haley has been teasing her presidential run for weeks, including a tweeted video in which she stated, “It’s time for a new generation to lead.”

Haley’s announcement event is being planned in Charleston and will take place on February 15th, according to multiple sources familiar with her plans. In recent months, Haley has positioned herself as a new kind of Republican, one who can bring fresh ideas and new approaches to the nation’s challenges, as well as to President Biden and the Democrats.

Haley, who is the daughter of Indian immigrants, has previously hinted at a presidential run. However, after Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election, Haley sent mixed signals about her presidential aspirations. She stated in April of 2021 that she would not run if President Trump did, and that she would talk to him about it. Even after Trump announced his bid in November of 2022, Haley has been reaching out to potential donors and staff members to lay the groundwork for her own campaign.

Haley has been critical of Trump’s leadership in the past, particularly after the Capitol insurrection on January 6th, 2021. However, she has since softened her tone. She stated in a recent interview with Fox News that if she were to run, her focus would be on defeating President Biden.

When asked about Haley’s candidacy, Trump told reporters that she had called him about her prospective campaign. He stated that he had no issue with it, but reminded the reporters of Haley’s previous statement that she would not run if he did.

Haley has a strong political background, having risen from a college graduate to a businesswoman, and then to a successful political leader who won unexpected races in the South Carolina state legislature and the governor’s mansion. During her second term as governor, she was picked by newly elected President Trump as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Since leaving her UN post, Haley has been active in the political sphere, writing books, giving speeches, and creating a political action committee called “Stand for America.” As she launches her 2024 presidential campaign, Haley hopes to embody the American Dream and bring a new generation of leadership to the country.
