China’s brazen alliance with a communist ally to conduct spying operations just 90 miles south of Florida has been confirmed by White House officials, sending shockwaves through the intelligence community. This disturbing revelation exposes the depths of China’s nefarious activities and their audacity to encroach upon America’s doorstep.

The Chinese spy base in Cuba has been in operation since at least 2019, making it clear that this insidious campaign predates the Biden administration. An anonymous White House official emphasized that this is not a new development, but an ongoing concern that has demanded the attention of the US intelligence community for some time.

To their credit, the Biden administration has taken steps to counter China’s expansion of its spy operations, employing diplomacy and other specified actions to impede their efforts. While progress has been made, the severity of the situation cannot be underestimated.

The existence of this Chinese spy base was brought to light by The Wall Street Journal, which reported that China and Cuba had reached a preliminary agreement to establish an electronic eavesdropping station on the island. These revelations indicate that China was willing to invest billions of dollars in their insidious partnership with Cuba, exploiting the economic vulnerabilities of the struggling nation.

In response to the report, the White House swiftly attempted to downplay its significance, claiming it to be inaccurate. However, the anonymous official confirmed that the Biden administration has been vigilant about China’s influence activities, especially in this hemisphere and region. The United States remains resolute in closely monitoring China’s actions and their implications for national security.

Predictably, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío also denied the report, resorting to baseless accusations of slander and speculation. Such dismissals cannot overshadow the grave concerns surrounding China’s spying efforts and their collaboration with Cuba.

The national security team under President Biden was briefed about the existence of the Chinese spy base and China’s broader mission to expand its influence and espionage capabilities soon after he assumed office. China scouted various locations across the globe, ultimately choosing Cuba and upgrading an existing facility there for their spying operations in 2019. This deliberate choice further underscores China’s strategic calculations and audacious actions.

The tense relationship between the United States and China has been a prominent feature of the Biden administration. From Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, which infuriated China and led to military exercises around the island, to the US shooting down a Chinese spy balloon that infiltrated American airspace, tensions have been on the rise.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s upcoming trip to China, after a previous one was canceled due to the spy balloon incident, holds significant implications. It is an opportunity to address the pressing matters at hand, including the complex issue of Taiwan. Diplomatic efforts, high-level communications, and a firm stance against China’s encroachments are crucial in protecting American interests.

As CIA Director William Burns and White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan engaged with their Chinese counterparts in recent meetings, the United States made its position clear: a desire for improved communication channels while remaining steadfast in safeguarding national security.

The revelation of China’s spy base in Cuba demands a unified and resolute response from the United States. The risks to national security are apparent, and the Biden administration must prioritize the protection of American interests. The world is watching as the United States confronts the growing challenges posed by an increasingly assertive China.

  1. And what do they suggest we do about it?
invade Cuba? Create a wall of electronic interference which probably would affect our cell communications in Miami?
How about incentives to Cuba so they refused the hundreds of millions that the Chinese OR the Russian are willing to pay them?
Maybe in retrospective Kennedy should have helped the Miami Cubans that invaded Cuba in 1961 instead of withholding his promised air support. That betrayal have turned Cubans in Miami into life long generational Republicans and Florida into a red state. Amazing butterfly effect.
