In a major setback for the Democratic Party’s underhanded tactics, the Green Party’s presidential ticket will remain on Wisconsin’s general election ballot, much to the dismay of those who hoped to silence dissent through legal maneuvering. The Wisconsin Supreme Court, despite its 4-3 liberal majority, delivered a blow to the Democrats by rejecting a petition from a Democratic National Committee (DNC) operative that sought to boot the Green Party off the ballot.
Let’s be clear: this isn’t about election integrity; it’s about power. The Democrats, who constantly tout themselves as defenders of democracy, are trying to manipulate the system to eliminate competition. Doug Strange, the DNC’s deputy operations director in Wisconsin, argued that Green Party candidates were disqualified simply because there are no Green Party members in state offices. In essence, they’re saying, “You don’t have enough power to challenge us, so you shouldn’t even be on the ballot.” How democratic of them.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court saw through this charade and denied the petition without comment. In their succinct order, they made it clear: “The petitioner is not entitled to the relief he seeks,” shutting down the Democrats’ latest attempt to rig the system.
Jill Stein, the Green Party’s presidential candidate, celebrated the court’s decision as a victory against what she called the “anti-Democratic Party’s war on democracy and voter choice.” And she’s right. This isn’t just a win for the Green Party; it’s a win for anyone who believes in fair elections and the right to choose. Wisconsin voters now have an option that stands against the corporate-driven, anti-worker, pro-war policies of the two major parties.
But let’s not kid ourselves. The Green Party isn’t going to win Wisconsin or any other swing state. That’s not the point. The point is that the Democrats are so desperate to control every vote that they’ll go to any lengths to eliminate even the smallest threat to their power. Wisconsin has been decided by razor-thin margins in the last two presidential elections, and the Democrats know that even a few thousand votes for the Green Party could make the difference. That’s why they’re so determined to kick Stein and her running mate, Butch Ware, off the ballot.
This isn’t the first time the Democrats have tried to sideline “inconvenient candidates.” They managed to keep the Green Party off the ballot in Wisconsin in 2020, and they’re doing everything they can to block Cornel West, another leftist candidate, this time around. But it’s not just Wisconsin. The Democrats are waging a nationwide campaign to silence alternative voices, all while preaching about democracy and the sanctity of the vote.
Rick Esenberg, president of the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL), called out the Democrats’ tactics for what they are: a “last-ditch effort” to disenfranchise voters. WILL’s attorneys argued that the DNC’s petition would effectively shut out any small or new party from getting on the presidential ballot, a move that would only benefit the entrenched powers that be.
The Democrats’ hypocrisy is on full display. While they cry foul over attempts to keep former President Donald Trump off the ballot, they’re more than happy to use the same dirty tricks against fellow leftists like Stein and West. It’s all about maintaining control, and they’ll stop at nothing to do it.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision is a rare win for democracy in a political landscape increasingly dominated by those who seek to crush dissent and limit voter choice. As Brian Schimming, chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, rightly pointed out, “If Democrats hope to win over voters, they will have to do so through earnest persuasion instead of disqualification.”
The Democrats’ cynical lawfare may have failed this time, but the battle for free and fair elections is far from over. The question is, how much more will they be willing to sacrifice in their quest for power?
