About 150 protesters swarmed the Trump Tower lobby on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. Dressed mostly in red, they waved signs reading “Free Mahmoud, Free Palestine.” Their chants filled the air outside one of America’s most iconic buildings.

The protest targeted Mahmoud Khalil—a controversial anti-Israel activist detained by ICE over the weekend. Khalil, known for stirring dissent at Columbia University last year, now faces serious charges. ICE claims he violated visa rules and poses a national security risk. Meanwhile, his supporters argue his arrest is a violation of free speech.

NYPD officers moved quickly. In just two hours, Chief John Chell reported 98 arrests. Protesters were handcuffed, tied with zip ties, and loaded onto vans and an MTA bus. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Republican lawmakers did not hold back. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene declared on X,

“Protesters have OCCUPIED Trump TOWER in NYC chanting ‘Free Mahmoud, Free them All!’ I know the owner of that building and he will definitely be pressing charges. FAFO.”
Rep. Wesley Hunt added, “The owner should press charges. We all know who that is!”

The group behind the protest, Jewish Voice for Peace, claimed the action was a “mass refusal” against what they call a fascist regime. One protester told the Associated Press,

“I’m just standing up for my rights, and I’m standing up for Mahmoud Khalil, who has been abducted illegally and taken to an undisclosed location. Does that sound like America to you?”

Trump Tower is not just real estate—it’s a symbol of American success. Built in the early 1980s, this skyscraper houses luxury residences, top-tier offices, and high-end retail. It also played a key role in launching President Trump’s 2016 campaign. For many Republicans, its integrity and legacy are non-negotiable.

The protest comes amid a wave of politically charged demonstrations in Manhattan. While Khalil’s supporters claim his detention is an attack on free speech and Palestinian liberation, critics—especially on the right—see it as a dangerous challenge to law and order. Actor Debra Winger, present at the scene, accused the Trump administration of having “no interest in Jewish safety” and “co-opting antisemitism,” a statement that has only deepened the divide.

Authorities promise to investigate thoroughly and take firm action against all lawbreakers. As the drama unfolds, Trump Tower stands as a bastion of conservative values and American strength in troubled times.
