“Every single one of them might be dragged in,” warns Rep. Byron Donalds.
The House Oversight Committee is sending a clear message to the Bidens: No one is above scruti
Republicans are now floating the possibility of hauling both former President Joe Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden before Congress — as their investigation into an alleged cover-up of Biden’s mental decline intensifies.
“Every option is on the table,” said House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., after a closed-door deposition on Capitol Hill Wednesday. “We’re going to move fast, and we’re going to get answers — no matter how high up this goes.”
Bernal Pleads the Fifth — And Sparks Firestorm
At the center of this latest uproar is Anthony Bernal, a longtime confidant and senior aide to Jill Biden. Bernal appeared for questioning under subpoena — and promptly invoked the Fifth Amendment.
He refused to answer questions tied to growing allegations that senior aides concealed signs of Biden’s physical and cognitive decline during his final year in office.
“This guy was Jill Biden’s right-hand man,” Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., told reporters. “If he’s pleading the Fifth, then the First Lady better get ready. She’s next.”
Bernal’s refusal follows a pattern. He’s the fourth Biden insider to go silent in front of the Oversight panel.
Earlier this year, former White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor also invoked the Fifth — prompting speculation about whether Biden’s medical records were suppressed or manipulated.
Former Deputy Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini was subpoenaed after reportedly dodging voluntary interviews.
Was Biden Signing Laws He Didn’t Understand?
The committee is also probing whether White House staff used autopen technology to authorize executive orders — raising the explosive question: Was Biden even aware of what he was signing?
“These are very serious constitutional concerns,” said Comer. “We need to know if the 46th president was running the country — or if unelected staff were running it for him.”
President Biden has denied any suggestion he was unfit to serve. “I made every decision myself,” he told The New York Times in a recent interview. But critics — including members of his own party — have quietly acknowledged behind closed doors that Biden’s cognitive performance raised red flags in the West Wing during his final months.
GOP: It’s Time for Jill Biden to Answer
Now, attention is turning to Jill Biden — who, according to insiders, played a “gatekeeper role” during her husband’s presidency, limiting access and controlling schedules.
Donalds made it clear: “If you were in the room — even as a janitor — you could be called. That includes the First Lady.”
Behind the scenes, sources say some Republicans are already discussing whether the Oversight Committee could formally request or subpoena the Bidens for testimony before the end of the summer.
The move would be unprecedented — but not impossible.
A Reckoning Under Trump’s Watch
The probe comes as President Donald Trump, now firmly back in the White House, has vowed to “restore accountability” in Washington. Trump allies in Congress are capitalizing on what they call “the biggest executive branch cover-up in modern history.”
“This isn’t about revenge,” one senior GOP aide told us. “It’s about exposing the truth. The American people were lied to — and we’re going to prove it.”
The Oversight Committee is expected to issue further subpoenas in the coming weeks.
And as for the Bidens?
They may be headed back to Capitol Hill — this time, not as guests, but as witnesses under oath.
