Detective and Devoted Mom of 3 Dies Days After Plastic Surgery Procedure

An NYPD detective and devoted mother of three tragically died just a week after undergoing a cosmetic procedure in Colombia, leaving her family in shock and prompting her husband to call for a full investigation.

Detective Alicia Stone, 40, a 13-year veteran of the NYPD who served in the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was found unresponsive in her hotel room in Cali early Thursday morning. She was rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital around 6:30 a.m., but was pronounced dead just over an hour later. Her cause of death has been listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest.”

Stone had traveled to Colombia for liposuction and a gluteal fat transfer, commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, on October 16, just a week before her death. Following the surgery, she was on anticoagulants and pain medication and had been moved to a hotel to recover.

Her husband, Michael Stone, described the shock of losing his wife so suddenly. “The doctor who called me from Colombia just told me my wife had passed away,” he said. “She didn’t have any information to give me when I asked… Something just doesn’t add up.” He added that Alicia had been feeling fine just the day before her death.

A fundraiser for Stone’s family highlighted her dedication and compassion. “Alicia was a loving mother of three and a devoted public servant who spent her career protecting and serving others. Her kindness, courage, and compassion touched everyone she met. Her unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of her family, friends, and fellow officers.”

Experts note that Brazilian Butt Lifts, which transfer fat from other parts of the body to the buttocks, carry uncommon but serious risks, including the possibility of fatal complications such as fat embolism.

Following her death, Colombian authorities, the U.S. State Department, and consular officials were contacted. Michael Stone said an NYPD detective was sent to Colombia to investigate, and he plans to request an autopsy to uncover the exact cause of her sudden passing.
