An off-duty New York police officer shot a man during a heated road-rage confrontation earlier this week, and the entire incident was caught on video by a witness.
The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. on December 11 in Wawayanda, a town roughly 70 miles northwest of New York City. According to the New York State Police, troopers responded to reports of a shooting and found that 31-year-old Wallace Fisher had been shot in the neck and shoulder by 33-year-old Anthony Simon, an off-duty Kingston Police officer.
State police say the confrontation began as a road-rage incident that stretched on for about a mile. Things escalated when Fisher stopped his Volkswagen in front of Simon’s Toyota pickup truck and got out of his car. A witness driving behind the two vehicles began recording as Fisher approached the truck, waving his arms and yelling at Simon for roughly 30 seconds. The audio in the video is unclear, but Fisher can be seen becoming increasingly agitated.
The situation turned violent when Fisher threw a punch through the open driver’s side window of Simon’s truck. Almost immediately, Simon fired his gun three times. Fisher collapsed to the ground, and Simon exited his vehicle, still pointing his weapon at the injured man.

In a statement, New York State Police said Fisher was allegedly brandishing a knife during the confrontation, though it is difficult to clearly see a weapon in the video footage.
Fisher was rushed to Garnet Health Medical Center before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center. Authorities say he remains in critical but stable condition.
The Kingston Police Department confirmed that Simon has been employed by the department since 2022. He has been placed on administrative duty while the New York State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office conduct a criminal investigation.
The witness who recorded the video, Rob Parker, described the moments leading up to the shooting in an interview with ABC7 New York. He said Fisher appeared to be tailgating Simon after being cut off, and that Simon allegedly brake-checked him in response. Parker claimed Fisher then tried to pass, but Simon moved into the opposite lane and attempted to force him off the road.
Another witness, David Perez, told the outlet the shooting was shocking to watch. “I screamed, literally screamed,” he said. “It was one of those moments you don’t even understand.”
As of now, no charges have been filed against either Fisher or Simon as the investigation continues.
