A shocking arrest has been made nearly two months after a man plunged to his death from a Miami Beach high-rise—while on a 911 call reporting a disturbance inside his own apartment.
Authorities say Justin Zelin died on February 15 after falling 25 floors from his residence in Miami Beach. Now, police have arrested 37-year-old Corey Hutterli in connection with the case.
According to investigators, the incident began with a frantic 911 call placed by Zelin around 10 a.m., reporting a disturbance inside his apartment. During the call, he can reportedly be heard repeatedly telling a man—identified by the alias “Sasha,” who police believe was Hutterli—to get away from him.
Authorities say the situation quickly escalated.
While the call was still ongoing, investigators claim a violent struggle could be heard in the background. Just eight minutes later, surveillance footage from the building captured the horrifying moment Zelin hit the ground below.
He was later pronounced dead from blunt force trauma.
When officers arrived at the scene, they allegedly spotted Hutterli leaving the building in what police described as a distressed and agitated state. According to reports, he was in such a hurry that he left without shoes.
Investigators say he appeared shocked upon seeing police and later asked if Zelin had jumped. He allegedly claimed that Zelin had attacked him.
But evidence soon told a different story.
Authorities say blood found on Hutterli’s shirt matched Zelin’s DNA, ultimately leading to his arrest weeks later. He is now facing charges including second-degree murder and burglary with assault or battery.
Police have not yet revealed a motive or how the two men knew each other.
Zelin, a biotech executive, was remembered by colleagues as a respected and thoughtful leader in his field.
“Our field has lost an extraordinary mind,” one tribute read, describing him as both a trusted voice and a friend.
Hutterli has not yet entered a plea, and it’s unclear whether he has secured legal representation. His arraignment is scheduled for later this month.
