A routine morning at an airport turned into a terrifying scene after a worker fell from a passenger plane, leaving him with severe injuries and sparking a full investigation.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. on April 11 at Manchester Airport, where an engineer working on a Jet2 aircraft suddenly plunged from the plane.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, with multiple ambulances responding as the injured man was treated on the airfield before being taken to the hospital.
Reports say the worker, believed to be a third-party contractor in his 60s, suffered serious injuries in the fall, including broken legs, broken elbows, a dislocated shoulder, and facial fractures.
Witnesses described a chaotic moment leading up to the fall.
According to one airport worker, the man may have mistakenly thought aircraft steps were positioned on one side of the plane. When he opened the door and realized there were no steps, he reportedly tried to grab onto the door—but strong winds and the weight of it pulled him outward.
The drop is believed to have been around 35 feet.
“To stop the brunt of the fall he put his knees and arms out,” the worker said, adding that it wasn’t immediately clear how serious the injuries were at the time.
Medical screens were quickly set up around the scene as first responders worked to stabilize him.
Officials say the flight was scheduled to depart for Tenerife before the incident unfolded.
Both airport officials and the airline have confirmed that a full investigation is now underway to determine exactly what happened.
Authorities say the man is still in the hospital receiving treatment, and while his injuries are severe, he is considered lucky to have survived the fall.
