A routine evening at a Maryland gas station turned into a terrifying scene after a brazen robbery attempt ended in gunfire—and now police are searching for the woman behind it.

Investigators say the shooting happened around 7:43 p.m. on April 17 at a Shell gas station in Columbia. Surveillance footage shows a woman calmly walking up to the counter before suddenly pulling a silver revolver from her purse and aiming it at the clerk.

What happened next unfolded in seconds.

Police say the suspect demanded money, appearing to order the employee to open the register. But instead of leaving with cash, she opened fire. Video captures at least one shot, though authorities say multiple rounds were fired. The clerk was struck and left seriously injured as the suspect fled the store.

The victim was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is now recovering.
