A disturbing alleged plot targeting a historic place of worship has been stopped before it could unfold — and the details are raising serious alarm.
An 18-year-old woman from North Carolina is accused of helping plan a violent attack aimed at killing “as many Jews as possible” at Congregation Beth Israel — the oldest synagogue in Texas.
According to prosecutors, Angelina Han Hicks was one of three people allegedly involved in a scheme to drive a vehicle into the synagogue during a gathering. The plan, authorities say, was set for April 21, 2028.
Court documents claim the goal of the alleged conspiracy was clear: to cause mass casualties by targeting people gathered at the synagogue. The location also includes a preschool and elementary school on the same campus, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The alleged plot was uncovered after the Federal Bureau of Investigation received a tip about a possible mass casualty threat tied to a Jewish day school near Houston. Hicks was arrested the following day.
Two other individuals, identified only as “Angel” and “Teegan,” have not been publicly named and remain unaccounted for.
Hicks’ parents are pushing back hard against the accusations, claiming their daughter has developmental challenges and lacks the ability to carry out such a plan. Her father described the situation as “over the top,” suggesting it may have stemmed from what he called a “fantasy game.”
They also noted that she does not drive, does not own a car, and has no experience with weapons, questioning how she could have realistically carried out the alleged attack.
The family added that Hicks spends much of her time online, including playing games on Roblox, though authorities have not confirmed any direct connection between gaming activity and the alleged plot.
Meanwhile, the Houston Police Department announced that a 16-year-old has also been arrested in connection with a separate but related threat targeting Jewish institutions in the area. Officials have not confirmed whether that teen is directly tied to Hicks’ case.
Hicks is now facing multiple felony charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond has been set at $10 million, with strict conditions aimed at preventing contact with any alleged co-conspirators.
She is scheduled to appear in court on May 13.
