A terrifying moment caught on camera shows just how close one California teen came to tragedy after her SUV was struck and torn apart by an oncoming train—yet somehow, she survived.

The 18-year-old driver, whose name has not been released, was stopped at a railroad crossing in Bakersfield on Friday morning near Edison Highway and Highway 184. But for reasons that quickly turned alarming, her vehicle began slowly rolling forward—right onto the tracks—as a train approached.

Within seconds, it was too late.

Dramatic video from the scene shows the locomotive slamming into the SUV, shredding it in a violent blast of metal and debris. The impact was so intense that witnesses feared the worst.

“I just saw the car start inching forward and hit the guard rail, and I thought, ‘That’s not good,’” witness Blake Blanton said. Realizing the danger, he began honking his horn and told his wife to call 911.

He didn’t hesitate to act.

“That’s someone’s daughter in there,” he said.

As chaos unfolded, Blanton’s wife, Allie Cardoza—a trained medical assistant—rushed straight to the wreckage. She found the teen injured and struggling to respond, and immediately tried to keep her conscious while waiting for emergency crews.

“I just wanted to make sure she was okay,” Cardoza said. “I kept trying to talk to her because she wasn’t responding at first.”

Authorities now believe the teen may have been experiencing a medical emergency that caused her to lose control and drift onto the tracks.

What makes the story even more unbelievable is the outcome.

Despite the SUV being completely destroyed in the collision, officials say the teen did not suffer major injuries from the crash itself. She was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

The shocking incident is still under investigation, and police have not released the driver’s identity.
