A Missouri family is devastated after a 4-year-old boy was allegedly struck and killed by an Amazon delivery driver who police say stopped briefly before driving away from the scene.
The heartbreaking tragedy happened Monday evening in a neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri, where little Tadens Joseph was playing near his favorite park just steps from his home.
According to investigators with the Kansas City Police Department, the child was crossing the street when he was allegedly hit by a driver delivering packages in the area.
Police say the suspect initially stopped after the collision but then allegedly drove away without calling 911 or attempting to help the injured child.
Authorities have since taken a suspect into custody, though the person’s identity has not yet been released publicly. Formal charges are still pending as investigators continue building the case for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to local reports, Tadens’ family desperately tried to stop the driver from leaving.
Investigators said one of the child’s family members ran after the delivery driver after realizing what had happened. When confronted, the suspect allegedly denied involvement before leaving the area.
Tadens’ mother later told reporters she was the one chasing after the vehicle and screamed at the driver that she had killed her son.
The tragedy has left the Kansas City community shaken, especially after loved ones shared emotional details about the little boy’s final day.
According to his family, Tadens had been especially excited because he was about to receive his very first pair of glasses. His teacher and classmates had even celebrated the milestone earlier that day before his father picked him up from school.
“I can’t wait for my glasses,” the little boy reportedly kept telling his mother.
Family members said Tadens spent most of his time playing at the neighborhood park near where the deadly crash happened.
Amazon released a statement following the incident, saying the company was heartbroken over the child’s death.
“Our deepest sympathies are with the child’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” the company said, adding that it plans to cooperate fully with police investigators.
The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet announced what charges the suspect may ultimately face.

It said this 4 year old was steps from his home playing by his favorite park but not where the adult was that was watching him, how far away? Were they on the phone? Why was a 4 year old playing in the street at all? Not something we teach children to do. While this driver should be sent to prison for life these parents need to take some responsibility for letting a 4 year old play in the damn street. I have 3 kids and would never let a 4 year old who doesn’t understand dangers play in the street. Mom or someone should have been right there to grab the 4 year old kid NOT steps away!
