A woman was killed and two others, including a 2-year-old child, were injured after a vehicle struck the horse-drawn carriage they were riding in on an Ohio highway.
The crash happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, on U.S. Route 50 near State Route 753 in Highland County, according to local reports citing the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Investigators said a GMC Sonoma hit the horse and buggy from behind as the carriage was traveling southwest along the highway.
Melinda Coblentz, 49, of Greenfield, was operating the horse-drawn carriage when it was struck. She died at the scene.
Two passengers were also injured in the crash.
Barbara Coblentz, 17, and 2-year-old Mirian Miller were both flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for treatment.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, they are in stable condition, and both are expected to recover.
The GMC Sonoma was being driven by 31-year-old Heath Snyder, according to WCPO 9 News.
Snyder was not injured in the collision.
Images released after the crash showed the horse-drawn carriage badly damaged along the roadway.
Authorities have not announced any citations or charges in connection with the wreck.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate what led to the crash.
As of Saturday, Sept. 5, the agency had not provided additional details about the case in response to a request for comment.
