At least eight people were injured — one of them critically — after a box truck slammed into a parked van that jumped the curb and plowed into pedestrians in Manhattan’s Chelsea, NY neighborhood Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The chaotic scene unfolded around 4 p.m. outside a building on Eighth Avenue between West 29th and West 30th streets, according to the NYPD.
Police said the driver of a northbound rental box truck crashed into an unattended, parked van. The impact sent the van careening onto the sidewalk, where it struck several pedestrians.
Between eight and ten people were rushed to Bellevue Hospital. One victim is listed in critical condition, while the others are stable, according to police.
The driver of the box truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests have been made, and police say the crash remains under investigation.
Emergency crews swarmed the area as bystanders looked on in shock.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
